Autumn days, sheep and kids

The unusually warm daytime weather has continued all week and we are making the most of it. The nights are cold and I have taken to wrapping the yoghurt maker in a thick towel to keep it warm while it works at night. Seems only fair as we are sleeping under a minki blanket, a doona and one of my crocheted afghans.

K is feeding the sheep on the days that our son-in-law doesn't come out from town. This daily spectacle is something I hadn't seen until this week when early one day he fed them before we left for a shopping trip to Canberra.

The procedure involved parking at a particular spot in the paddock and beeping the horn. From every direction sheep came running, pushing and shoving each other and baaing loudly. They appeared from behind trees and down in the hollows. K then got out, opened a feed bag and walked in a circle dropping the food in a thin line. I tried to get a photo of K pouring sheep nuts out of a bag with 150 sheep trying to get the food as it tumbled out. Some even got in front of him and shoved their heads in the bag to catch a mouthful before it hit the dirt. Quick footwork was required to stay up right and just ahead of the mob. By the time I stopped laughing the only shot I got was them chomping into the line of feed.

Meanwhile in town two grandkids were chilling out after a hard day of playing in the yard, eating and sleeping. Miss Four and Master Five months were watching a movie. Too cute.

It is still lovely outside. I'm told by the locals to enjoy .. Winters are bitter here. It even snows.
Perhaps we will escape to warmer places before then.
